On Monday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Quantum BioPharma Ltd.’s (NASDAQ:QNTM) Investigational New Drug (IND) application for Lucid-MS (Lucid-21-302), enabling it to advance its multiple sclerosis program into Phase 2 clinical development.
Advancing Phase 2 Clinical Trials
The company is working with a clinical research organization with significant experience in neurodegenerative studies to support implementation of the planned disease-modifying Phase 2 study.
Preparations for the trial, including the selection of testing sites, have already begun.
The company intends to initiate patient enrollment and begin administering the drug as swiftly as possible.
Differentiated Approach To MS
Lucid-MS is a patented, novel investigational compound formulated to offer neuroprotection by halting demyelination, which is a primary driver of worsening disability in MS patients.
Unlike many current options that merely modulate the immune system, this new chemical entity targets the underlying neurodegeneration, aiming to address the fundamental root cause of disease progression.
Tackling Substantial Medical Need
Progressive variants of the condition, encompassing primary progressive MS (PPMS) and secondary progressive MS (SPMS), remain a significant global health challenge with scarce therapeutic alternatives.
While existing disease-modifying therapies are available, numerous patients continue to suffer from advancing disabilities, emphasizing the necessity for treatments that stimulate neuroprotection and remyelination.
Market research underscores this urgent demand. The PPMS treatment sector is forecast to expand from $1.16 billion in 2025 to $1.31 billion in 2026.
Furthermore, the broader global multiple sclerosis therapeutics industry is projected to reach approximately $38.62 billion by 2030.
This Phase 2 trial marks an important strategic milestone for Quantum BioPharma and advances our unique Lucid-MS program into the next stage of development,” said Zeeshan Saeed, Founder, CEO, and Executive Co-Chairman of the Board of Quantum BioPharma.
Quantum BioPharma maintains a cash balance of over $10 million as of March 31, 2026.
QNTM Stock Price Activity: Quantum BioPharma shares were down 2.32% at $3.37 during premarket trading on Monday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
