BlackBerry Ltd. (NYSE:BB) shares are advancing Wednesday as software names rally on renewed risk appetite ahead of IBM and SAP earnings after the close. Here’s what you should know.
- BlackBerry stock is among today’s strongest performers. Why is BB stock up today?
Investors are shifting money back into riskier corners of the market, and software is a major beneficiary. Rising AI revenue at SpaceX has revived interest in stocks tied to that theme, while traders also get set for IBM and SAP reports after the bell.
Investor appetite for software stocks has improved as money flows back into growth-oriented sectors. BlackBerry, whose business is focused on cybersecurity and embedded software, may benefit from the stronger sentiment, particularly as traders look ahead to earnings from enterprise software leaders IBM and SAP.
QNX Closes The Biggest Contract in its History
On top of the upcoming earnings, BlackBerry revealed Tuesday that its QNX division signed the largest agreement it has ever landed. The customer is the first to select Alloy Kore, the company’s base automotive operating system, and BlackBerry estimates the contract will generate over $100 million in royalties down the road.
The company says the deal gives Alloy Kore a concrete commercial proof point. It may also let QNX software take on a bigger role inside every vehicle, increasing what each program is worth in royalties.
QNX’s expected future royalties now top $1.2 billion, an all-time high, up from about $950 million when fiscal 2026 closed. That is a gain of more than $250 million, or over 26%, in just two quarters. CEO John Giamatteo said the growth validates BlackBerry’s approach.
Adoption of the QNX Software Development Platform 8.0 added to the climb. Automakers are shifting vehicle functions onto a smaller number of more powerful computers, and QNX software can handle multiple workloads at once on the same machine. A single car could therefore carry more QNX code and earn BlackBerry more per vehicle.
BlackBerry Holds Above Key Moving Averages
