Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ:SMCI) stock is falling Thursday as an export-control case involving people linked to the company continues to weigh on investor sentiment.
A wider decline in technology and AI-related stocks is adding to the pressure. Export controls are U.S. restrictions on shipping certain technology to other countries.
The Nasdaq is down 1.17%, and the S&P 500 has lost 0.26%. The technology sector is down 2.1%.

Contractor Pleads Guilty in Export Case
Ting-Wei “Willy” Sun, a contractor linked to Super Micro, pleaded guilty last Thursday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, Reuters reported, citing a court filing. The case involves servers equipped with advanced chips from NVIDIA Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) in an alleged $2.5 billion scheme to export them to China.
Sun pleaded guilty to conspiring to violate U.S. export controls, smuggling, defrauding the U.S. government and obstructing justice.
What the Indictment Alleges
Prosecutors allege that Sun and two others linked to Super Micro diverted AI servers to China starting in 2024. They also allege the group used fake servers and misled U.S. Commerce Department officials during a December 2025 inspection. The indictment says the shipments violated U.S. export restrictions covering Nvidia’s B200, H100 and H200 chips.
Super Micro said it fired Sun and severed ties with the other defendants earlier this year.

Technical Analysis
From a trend perspective, SMCI is trading 19.2% below its 20-day SMA ($41.09) and 14% below its 50-day SMA ($38.58), which keeps the near-term posture tilted bearish despite longer-term uptrend signals still on the chart. It’s also 6.1% below the 100-day SMA ($35.37), but remains 2.3% above the 200-day SMA ($32.45), putting the stock in a “make-or-break” zone between long-term support and short-term downtrend pressure.
The bigger-picture backdrop is mixed: the Golden Cross in August (50-day SMA above the 200-day SMA) is still a constructive longer-term feature, but the more recent MACD bearish cross in February lines up with the stock’s inability to hold above its faster averages. Traders will also remember the recent swing high in October and swing low in July as the bookends that define the current range and where breakouts/breakdowns tend to accelerate.
- Key Resistance: $39.50 — Nearby rebound ceiling that lines up with the stock’s overhead congestion and sits close to the 50-day moving-average area.
- Key Support: $29.50 — Nearby floor where buyers previously stepped in, and a level that matters if price loses the 200-day SMA area.
SMCI Stock Price Activity: Super Micro Computer shares were down 4.71% at $34.10 at the time of publication on Thursday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
