IonQ Shares Surge 10% As Analysts See Acquisition Opportunities, Sold-Out 2027 Capacity And Quantum Security Driving Growth

IonQ Inc. (NYSE:IONQ) shares are trading higher after the company reported better-than-expected third-quarter financial results and raised its fiscal year 2026 sales guidance above estimates.

IonQ drew new views from three Wall Street firms after its quarterly report, with each pointing to the company’s cash, acquisitions and customer demand as central to the investment case.

Rosenblatt Securities analyst John McPeake maintained a Buy rating and a $70 price forecast in a note on Thursday. Needham analyst N. Quinn Bolton lowered his price forecast to $48 from $65 and kept a Buy rating in a Friday note, citing his discounted cash flow valuation model.

Cantor analyst Troy Jensen reduced his price forecast to $60 from $70 and kept an Overweight rating on Friday.

Cash Funds Acquisitions

McPeake wrote that IonQ’s $2 billion capital raise on Oct. 14 now looks well timed. Since then, the Nasdaq 100 has fallen 11% and IonQ stock has fallen 16%. He said the raise lifts the company’s cash to $3.7 billion, which gives it room to pursue acquisitions at lower market prices.

McPeake noted that IonQ has made 10 acquisitions in the past year and a half. He wrote that he would not be surprised to see more purchases in cybersecurity after the $1.3 billion Elisity deal. He cited comments from COO Inder Singh that the cybersecurity market could be larger than the quantum computing market. For 2027, McPeake wrote that the next proof point is delivering the 256-qubit Superion machines to customers on time and at specification. A qubit is the basic unit of information in a quantum computer.

Demand And Security

Bolton wrote that management said it is sold out of 2027 capacity for the Superion 256 systems. He described the Elisity acquisition, which has closed, as a push toward quantum-era security. Elisity makes software that divides a network into smaller zones to keep an attack from spreading. Needham said the deal adds more than 100 enterprise deployments, and Bolton called the move an effort to “skate to where the puck is going.”

Valuation Pressure

Jensen lowered his forecast because of multiple compression, a decline in the value investors place on each dollar of sales, which he linked to a correction in the technology sector and the quantum industry. He wrote that IonQ is in the “early innings of commercializing quantum” and that its momentum in quantum computing, networking and security supports the multiple.

IONQ Stock Price Activity: IonQ shares were up 10.52% at $29.21 on Friday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
