Intuitive Machines Inc (NASDAQ:LUNR) shares are trading lower Tuesday morning as traders digest the company’s latest contract win amid overall market weakness.
- Intuitive Machines shares are retreating from recent levels. Why are LUNR shares down?
What’s Driving Intuitive Machines’ Recent Contract Win?
Intuitive Machines said Tuesday it received authorization to proceed on a multi-satellite communications infrastructure program with an anticipated value exceeding $600 million, using its IM 1300 satellite platform to design, manufacture, integrate and support multiple spacecraft.
CEO Steve Altemus highlighted that the multi-satellite procurement marks a critical milestone for the company, reinforcing growing demand for its space infrastructure capabilities across commercial, civil and national security markets.
Intuitive Machines also framed the award as part of a broader scaling push after second-quarter revenue rose to $206.17 million (from $50.31 million a year ago), even as results missed consensus estimates of $220.76 million and losses per share came in at 29 cents versus an estimated 7-cent loss.
Analyst rating revisions followed that setup, with Stifel upgrading to Buy while cutting its target to $26 from $32 and Cantor Fitzgerald reiterating Overweight while trimming its target to $32 from $43.
Critical Price Levels To Watch For LUNR Stock
With the stock at $19.36, it’s trading about 30% above the 20-day SMA ($14.78) and about 5% above the 50-day SMA ($18.32), but still about 18% below the 100-day SMA ($23.41). That mix often reads as “short-term strength inside a longer repair phase,” especially with price sitting essentially on the 200-day SMA ($19.35).
The bigger trend flag is the death cross that formed in August (the 50-day SMA below the 200-day SMA), which can keep rallies choppy until the longer averages flatten and turn. On momentum, MACD is above its signal line with a positive histogram, which suggests downside pressure is easing even if the broader trend hasn’t fully flipped.
From a levels standpoint, traders will likely watch whether the stock can reclaim the $22.50 area, which lines up with a nearby round-number/pivot zone and sits below the 100-day SMA overhead. On the downside, $17.50 is the nearby “line in the sand,” a level that can matter if premarket weakness turns into a deeper pullback.
- Key Resistance: $22.50 — a nearby round-number/pivot area where rebounds can stall, with the 100-day SMA ($23.41) still overhead
- Key Support: $17.50 — a nearby level where buyers previously stepped in, below the 50-day SMA ($18.32)
