D-Wave Quantum Stock Surges on Nasdaq Verafin Deal

D-Wave Quantum Inc (NASDAQ:QBTS) shares are gaining Monday after the quantum computing company unveiled a collaboration with Nasdaq Verafin aimed at determining whether quantum technology can meaningfully strengthen the fight against financial crime. Here’s what you should know.

D‑Wave, Nasdaq Verafin Team Up on Quantum‑Driven Financial Crime Detection

D-Wave and Nasdaq Verafin formalized an agreement Monday to put quantum computing to work on one of the financial services industry’s most persistent and costly challenges. The two organizations will start by constructing a proof-of-concept with the door open to expanding into full pilot programs across priority anti-financial crime applications if the initial work demonstrates promise.

The focus will be on whether D-Wave’s annealing quantum systems can surface intricate patterns hidden within account behavior, transaction histories and counterparty relationships that conventional detection methods routinely fail to catch. As a first step, the proof-of-concept will task D-Wave’s technology with processing hundreds of potential data inputs simultaneously in an attempt to build more capable predictive models for flagging suspicious account activity before it matures into confirmed fraud or money laundering.

CEO Alan Baratz described the arrangement as a meaningful chance to show what quantum computing can accomplish when applied to genuinely difficult real-world problems in financial services. He said Nasdaq Verafin’s willingness to bring quantum-hybrid methods into its core machine learning work reflects a forward-thinking posture that positions the organization to help shape where financial technology innovation goes next.

Wedbush analyst Matt Bryson stepped into the D-Wave story Monday, assuming coverage with an Outperform rating and a $40 price target, a figure that is approximately double current trading levels. The positive analyst coverage appears to be helping drive the stock on Monday.
