Gov. Gavin Newsom slammed President Donald Trump as the U.S.-Israel and Iran war surpassed the 100-day mark amid rising inflation, warning that Trump does not have control of the situation.
Trump Launched Iran War With No Plan
In a post on X on Monday, Newsom’s Press Office said that the president had “launched a war on Iran with no plan” and sent fuel costs surging across the U.S. “Americans have been saddled with an extra $55.6 BILLION (and growing) in fuel costs,” the post said.
The Press Office then said that the rising inflation was “eating into” people’s wages, while Americans dealt with “over 3 months of pain at the pump,” and rising grocery costs. “And yesterday Trump said he was “in control” of the war. Clearly that’s not true,” the post said.
Analyst Says Iran War Causing Price Hikes
GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan shared updates on X on Monday, outlining price hikes in states like Florida, Ohio, Utah and more.
De Haan shared that the price hikes across the states were a “routine price cycle” that was hiked to an “elevated amount due to the US/Iran situation.”
Gas prices have been hovering above the $4/gallon mark following the Iran war, with the national average price for a gallon of gas on Monday at $4.1640/gallon, according to data by the American Automobile Association (AAA). States like California continued to pay more than $5/gallon, outlining rising costs
Shipping Costs Surge, Airspace Closures
The Iran war has caused challenges in multiple sectors, with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz also having an impact on container shipping costs. The spot rate for a 40-foot container from Asia to the US West Coast jumped over 20% over the past week.
Meanwhile, Iran, as well as countries like Iraq and Syria, announced airspace closures following missile strikes exchanged between Iran and Israel.
Trump had earlier urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against launching another round of strikes, saying that the countries should resolve the differences through diplomatic means.
