MicroVision Deepens FieldAI Partnership To Accelerate AI-Powered Robotics

MicroVision, Inc. (NASDAQ:MVIS) stock is trading higher by almost 3% during Monday’s premarket session after the company announced on Sunday, an expanded collaboration with FieldAI, a developer of autonomous robotic systems for government and industrial applications.

The collaboration will broaden FieldAI’s efforts to integrate MicroVision’s sensing solutions into autonomous ground and aerial platforms, potentially creating new commercial opportunities in defense, industrial robotics and autonomous navigation.

MicroVision’s Lidar Technology Powers Autonomous Robotics

The expanded partnership follows FieldAI’s Federal division evaluation of MicroVision’s IRIS long-range lidar sensor on autonomous ground vehicles.

The companies also demonstrated an advanced aerial mapping solution integrating MicroVision’s MOVIA Air Plus sensor with the Robinson Unmanned Spirit drone.

In addition, FieldAI has purchased MicroVision MOVIA sensors for development and evaluation activities spanning both government and industrial autonomous robotics initiatives.

MicroVision CEO Glen DeVos highlighted the company’s ability to deliver sensing solutions supporting autonomous robotics through long-range perception for autonomous ground vehicles, real-time 3D mapping and obstacle detection.

Elevated Short Interest Adds To Volatility

MicroVision’s elevated short interest may have amplified Monday’s move, as recent strong earnings potentially prompted investors betting against the stock to cover their positions.

The company has a short float of 7.15 million shares, representing 21.1% of its publicly traded float according to Benzinga Pro data, indicating a relatively high level of short interest among investors betting against the stock.

With a market capitalization of about $46 million as of Friday’s close, MicroVision remains a micro-cap stock vulnerable to sharp price swings amid elevated trading activity.
