General Motors to Move From NYSE to Nasdaq, Opening Door to Nasdaq-100 Inclusion

General Motors (NYSE:GM) stock rose Tuesday after the automaker announced plans to transfer its stock listing from the New York Stock Exchange to the Nasdaq Global Select Market. The move reflects GM’s growing focus on technology-driven growth.

The Detroit-based automaker said that its shares will continue trading on the NYSE through Nov. 16, 2026. Trading on Nasdaq is scheduled to begin Nov. 17 under the existing ticker symbol “GM.”

The transition will not require any action from existing shareholders.

Nasdaq-100 Eligibility Could Boost Investor Interest

The move could also make General Motors eligible for inclusion in the Nasdaq-100 Index, which tracks 100 of the largest nonfinancial companies listed on Nasdaq.

Potential inclusion could attract additional investment from index-tracking funds, increasing demand for GM shares. However, eligibility does not guarantee inclusion in the index.

GM Chief Financial Officer Paul Jacobson said the exchange transfer aligns with the company’s customer-focused, technology-driven strategy and its efforts to create long-term shareholder value. He also recognized GM’s longstanding relationship with the NYSE.

General Motors Recent Earnings

The Nasdaq listing announcement comes shortly after General Motors reported stronger-than-expected third-quarter results, supported by robust demand for pickup trucks and SUVs, improved North American profitability and cost-control measures.

The automaker reported quarterly revenue of $50.02 billion, up 2.9% year over year and above analysts’ expectations of $48.70 billion. Adjusted earnings climbed 32.2% to $3.70 per share, beating the consensus estimate of $3.63.

GM also narrowed its full-year 2026 adjusted earnings outlook to $12.75–$13.75 per share, compared with analysts’ estimate of $13.41, amid ongoing commodity, logistics and manufacturing cost pressures.

The automaker also announced a new $20 billion multiyear share repurchase program, underscoring its focus on returning capital to shareholders while investing in future growth.

GM expects continued momentum from its next-generation pickup trucks, expanded SUV production and growing digital services, including OnStar and Super Cruise.
