Lightspeed Commerce Inc. (NYSE:LSPD) stock rose Thursday after the company introduced new AI-powered capabilities designed to help retailers automate daily operations, manage inventory and streamline decision-making.
The company expanded its Lightspeed AI platform with agentic capabilities that go beyond providing insights. The system can now recommend actions and prepare tasks for retailers to review and approve.
AI Takes On Retail Operations
The upgraded platform analyzes product catalogs, inventory, sales and purchasing data across multiple locations.
Retailers can use conversational commands to identify low-stock products, prepare purchase orders, update product information and plan inventory transfers.
The system can also flag unsold products for clearance and identify locations with stronger demand.
Importantly, Lightspeed AI previews proposed changes and requires explicit approval before taking action. It also records activities in an audit log to maintain transparency.
CEO Dax Dasilva said the technology aims to reduce routine administrative work, allowing retailers to focus more on customers and store operations.
Chief Technology Officer Bhawna Singh emphasized that combining AI with existing commerce data allows the platform to handle more complex tasks while keeping merchants in control.
Lightspeed is introducing the capabilities to select customers through an opt-in beta program, with broader availability planned.
Agentic AI Market Gains Momentum
The launch comes as agentic AI gains traction across enterprise software and consumer applications.
Research firm Gartner estimated in July that up to $234 billion in enterprise application software spending could be affected by agentic AI through 2030.
Meanwhile, Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) has expanded its consumer AI efforts through Muse, which has surpassed 6.6 million downloads since its Sept. 8 launch.
Citigroup estimates that Muse could generate more than $27 billion annually by 2030.
Meta also introduced Muse Wonder earlier this week, expanding its AI model lineup for personal and professional applications.
LSPD Price Action
Lightspeed Commerce shares rose 6.28% to $10.95 Thursday at the time of publication, according to Benzinga Pro data.
