First Lady Melania Trump has renamed her annual student artificial intelligence competition the Presidential Super Intelligence Challenge, aligning the initiative with President Donald Trump’s push to replace the term AI with super intelligence, or SI.
Melania Launches 2027 Super Intelligence Challenge
In a video announcement Tuesday, Melania unveiled the second annual competition, inviting K-12 students to develop technology-driven solutions to community problems and encouraging educators to explore creative ways to incorporate SI tools into classroom learning.
“The largest initiative in America’s education began with one bold idea,” Trump said, describing the effort as a way to prepare the next generation to lead in advanced technology.
“America’s next groundbreaking idea is already sitting in a classroom,” she added, highlighting the need to give students the resources to turn their ideas into reality.
According to the first lady, more than 20,000 students nationwide participated in the inaugural 2026 competition, the Presidential Artificial Intelligence Challenge.
Participating schools will have an opportunity to earn the First Lady Seal of SI Readiness, a recognition intended to highlight efforts to prepare students and educators to understand, use and responsibly engage with SI technologies.
Trump Pushes to Replace AI With Super Intelligence
The rebranding follows President Trump’s September announcement that he wanted the government to adopt the term super intelligence instead of artificial intelligence in official documents.
“The use of the word ‘artificial’ makes intelligence sound fake,” Trump said before signing an order directing the terminology change.
Trump formalized the terminology shift on Sept. 29, signing an executive order directing executive-branch agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in place of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports and other non-statutory documents.
