Berkshire Hathaway Doubles Down on Bending Spoons with $330 Million Investment, Sending Shares Soaring 45%

Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRK) on Wednesday expanded its investment in Italian technology portfolio company Bending Spoons S.p.A. (NASDAQ:BSP), committing an additional $330 million and increasing its ownership stake to 4%.

Bending Spoons stock is trading higher by more than 45% on Wednesday.

Berkshire’s Investment Reaches Close to $1 Billion

The fresh capital follows Berkshire Hathaway’s $600 million investment during Bending Spoons’ IPO in July 2026, bringing its cumulative investment to nearly $930 million.

Bending Spoons will issue 10 million ordinary shares at $33 per share through a private placement.

The purchase price represents a nearly 13% discount to Bending Spoons’ Tuesday closing price of $37.86.

The transaction that increases Berkshire’s stake to 4% makes the firm the sixth-largest investor in Bending Spoons, according to LSEG data, Reuters reported.

Transaction to Support Bending Spoons M&A Strategy

The investment will further enhance Bending Spoons’ financial flexibility and ability to pursue attractive acquisitions as part of its broader financing strategy.

The company specializes in acquiring, transforming and restructuring digital businesses, with a portfolio spanning software, digital media and online services.

Its portfolio includes Airtable, AOL, Brightcove, Eventbrite, Evernote, Tractive, Vimeo and WeTransfer.

Most recently, in September, the company announced its acquisition of Miro, an AI-first workspace provider, for $1.355 billion.

Bending Spoons held cash and cash equivalents of $793 million and had $1.28 billion of available borrowing capacity under its revolving credit as of June 30, 2026.

Co-founder and Head of Business Acquisitions Francesco Patarnello said the company continuously evaluates M&A opportunities and has a strong pipeline.

The investment follows as Berkshire Hathaway undergoes a leadership transition under CEO Greg Abel, who succeeded Warren Buffett earlier this year.

The conglomerate, in its second-quarter earnings in August, disclosed that its cash, cash equivalents, and short-term U.S. Treasury bills holdings shrank to nearly $360 billion from nearly $391 billion at the end of March.

BSP/BRK-B Price Action

Bending Spoons shares were up 48.78% at $56.33 and Berkshire Hathaway shares were up 0.40% at $522.66 at the time of publication on Wednesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
