StoneX Starts SoFi Coverage at Buy With $25 Price Target
StoneX Financial launched coverage of SoFi at Buy, setting a $25 price target.
StoneX analyst Mark Palmer argues the selloff went too far. Palmer told clients Monday that the shares are down about 40% this year, CNBC reported. Yet second-quarter 2026 adjusted net revenue climbed more than 40% from a year earlier.
Palmer said SoFi posted its best quarter ever for new members, deposits, products and profit. In Palmer’s view, the market treats all four as if they were shrinking. StoneX expects SoFi to convert revenue growth into profit after heavy marketing spending.
Keefe, Bruyette & Woods Cuts SoFi Price Target to $15
Keefe, Bruyette & Woods analyst Timothy Switzer reiterated an Underperform rating on SoFi on Monday. Switzer lowered the price target from $16 to $15. Switzer linked the move to SoFi’s upcoming third-quarter report and said the firm prefers to stay cautious.
Switzer first flagged the concern in the firm’s second-quarter recap. SoFi uses fair value accounting, which leaves little room to hit guidance in quarters when interest rates spike, Switzer said. The exception is if SoFi burns through capital faster.
The third quarter fits that pattern. Rates moved higher while SoFi’s balance sheet grew sharply. Switzer estimates the combined cost at more than $1 billion for the quarter, before any relief from hedges. Switzer expects another round of strong loan growth and a thinner capital cushion.
Analyst Views On SoFi Stock Stay Mixed Even as Consensus Rating Holds at Buy
Beyond StoneX and Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, other recent analyst moves on SoFi point in different directions:
- TD Cowen analyst Moshe Orenbuch stayed at Hold on October 6 and trimmed the price target from $18 to $17.50.
- Scotiabank began coverage on September 2 at Sector Outperform with a $17.50 price target.
Fourteen analysts give SoFi an average Buy rating in Benzinga’s consensus. Their average price target is $21.82, and the top target is $30.
