Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE:GS) stock rose on Tuesday after the investment bank reported strong second-quarter fiscal 2026 results.
Chief Executive David Solomon said clients continued to rely on the firm’s advisory, execution and financing services despite a challenging business environment. This demand helped the firm deliver its second-highest quarterly net revenue and record year-to-date revenue.
Details
The firm reported earnings of $17.01 per share, well above the analyst consensus estimate of $13.08. Net revenue increased 23% year over year (Y/Y) to $18.68 billion, beating the consensus estimate of $16.71 billion. This is driven by strength in its Global Banking & Markets business.
Net interest income declined to $3.77 billion from $3.85 billion a year earlier.
Operating expenses increased 20% Y/Y to $11.31 billion, reflecting higher transaction-related costs and increased compensation and benefit expenses.
Provision for credit losses rose to $368 million from $339 million a year earlier, reflecting impairments related to wholesale loans.
Goldman reported an efficiency ratio of 59.4% in the nine months ended 2026, compared with 62.1% in the same period of 2025.
Its standardized Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) capital ratio was 12.4%, while the advanced CET1 ratio was 13.6%. Assets under supervision reached a record $4.10 trillion.
Segment Performance
Global Banking & Markets revenue climbed 32% Y/Y to $13.5 billion, led by a 21% increase in investment banking fees on stronger advisory and equity underwriting revenue. Equities revenue jumped 72% to $6.44 billion. However, fixed income, currencies and commodities revenue fell 1% to $3.47 billion.
Asset & Wealth Management revenue rose 14% Y/Y to $5.05 billion, supported by higher management and other fees revenue on higher average assets under supervision (AUS), while incentive fees increased due to fund distributions.
However, Platform Solutions revenue fell 72% Y/Y to $170 million, primarily due to markdowns on the Apple Card loan portfolio, which was classified as held for sale in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Dividend & Repurchases
Goldman Sachs’ Board of Directors declared a quarterly dividend of $5 per common share on Oct. 12, 2026, payable on Dec. 30 to shareholders of record as of Dec. 2, 2026.
During the quarter, the firm returned $4.49 billion to common shareholders, including $3 billion in share repurchases covering 2.9 million shares at an average price.
