D-Wave Quantum Inc. (NYSE:QBTS) and SkyWater Technology announced a multi-year agreement Tuesday to extend their semiconductor manufacturing partnership and support D-Wave’s quantum computing technology roadmap.
The agreement builds on more than a decade of collaboration at SkyWater’s Minnesota facility, where the companies have developed specialized manufacturing processes for superconducting quantum processors.
Partnership Supports Next-Generation Quantum Systems
Under the agreement, SkyWater will continue providing semiconductor manufacturing services and technical expertise to support D-Wave’s quantum computing systems.
The partnership combines D-Wave’s expertise in superconducting quantum technology with SkyWater’s capabilities in materials engineering, process integration and semiconductor manufacturing.
Their collaboration has supported several generations of D-Wave processors, including its Advantage2 systems.
Notably, a SkyWater-manufactured Advantage2 system was used in research published in Science in 2025. The study demonstrated quantum computing performance beyond classical approaches for a specific simulation problem.
The new agreement also includes provisions to protect D-Wave’s intellectual property as it develops future quantum systems.
Quantum Computing Improves Chip Manufacturing
Earlier this year, the companies tested D-Wave’s quantum annealing technology to improve manufacturing efficiency at SkyWater’s facility.
The project optimized equipment maintenance schedules and reduced production lot delays by up to 30%, helping improve factory throughput.
The companies plan to expand the model to account for technician availability, resource limitations and other manufacturing constraints.
SkyWater CEO Thomas Sonderman said the agreement strengthens the company’s ability to support D-Wave and other quantum computing developers with specialized manufacturing capabilities.
Meanwhile, D-Wave CEO Alan Baratz emphasized that the partnership provides access to an experienced manufacturing team as the company develops future quantum systems.

D-Wave Quantum Stock Analysis
D-Wave stock fell more than 2% Tuesday as weakness across technology stocks added pressure to the quantum computing company. The Nasdaq declined 0.44%, while the S&P 500 slipped 0.13%.
The stock remains in a bearish trend, trading 16.9% below its 20-day simple moving average (SMA) and 24.1% below its 50-day SMA.
The stock also trades more than 33% below its 100-day and 200-day SMAs, reinforcing its longer-term weakness.
However, its relative strength index (RSI) stands at 26.90, below the oversold threshold of 30. This suggests selling pressure may be stretched, although it does not confirm a reversal.
The 20-day SMA remains below the 50-day SMA. Additionally, a death cross formed in March when the 50-day SMA dropped below the 200-day SMA.
Shares are approaching their 52-week low of $12.75, well below their 52-week high of $46.75.
Key support stands near $13, a level traders may watch for signs of stabilization.
