Why Is BKV Stock Surging Wednesday?

BKV Corporation (NYSE:BKV) stock is trading higher Wednesday after the company announced a power generation equipment supply contract backed by an agreement with a leading investment-grade hyperscaler.

Secures 1,200 MW Of Power Equipment

BKV said a wholly owned subsidiary signed an equipment supply contract with a Tier 1 supplier. The agreement covers about 1,200 megawatts of natural gas-fired power generation equipment for a proposed project in Texas.

The supply agreement covers two turbines, balance-of-plant equipment and related services, with deliveries expected to begin in September 2028.

The contract is valued at nearly $800 million. That figure includes $80 million in reservation fees already paid by BKV. The remaining payments are scheduled between October 2026 and December 2028.

Hyperscaler Backstops Near-Term Costs

Subsequently, BKV executed a backstop agreement with a leading investment-grade hyperscaler, which is also the intended off-taker for the prospective power generation project. The hyperscaler will reimburse nearly 90% of BKV’s payments due through March 31, 2027.

The agreement has the provision for BKV to terminate the supply contract without further payment obligations in case BKV and the hyperscaler fail to reach mutually agreeable offtake arrangements by March 31, 2027. CEO of BKV Chris Kalnin said the structure highlights the company’s disciplined approach to capital deployment.

Rising Power Demand From AI

Data centers are becoming a major source of electricity demand as AI workloads require increasingly large amounts of computing power.

Hyperscalers are responding by investing directly in power generation, signing long-term electricity agreements and helping finance new energy projects to secure reliable supply, Forbes reported.

On Tuesday, Google, a unit of Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL), signed a 20-year agreement with Constellation Energy Corporation (NASDAQ:CEG) covering 3.59 gigawatts of electricity. The deal includes 890 megawatts of additional nuclear capacity and another 2.7 gigawatts from Constellation’s existing PJM fleet.

Earlier this month, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ) signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Constellation to secure nuclear power from Maryland’s Calvert Cliffs plant.

In December 2025, NextEra Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NEE) and Google Cloud expanded their energy and technology partnership. The companies agreed to develop several gigawatt-scale data center campuses along with the power generation and capacity needed to support them.

Microsoft has also moved to secure long-term nuclear supply. In September 2024, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) signed a 20-year agreement with Constellation to restart a reactor at Three Mile Island that had been shut down in 2019.

BKV Price Action: BKV shares were up 7.23% at $23.64 at the time of publication on Wednesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
