Synopsys Inc. (NASDAQ:SNPS) shares are climbing Friday morning after a major Wall Street upgrade highlighted the electronic design automation provider’s expanding artificial intelligence tailwinds and improving risk-reward profile.
Here’s what investors need to know.
- Synopsys stock is showing upward movement. What’s pushing SNPS stock higher?
HSBC Upgrade and AI Growth Trajectory
The stock’s upward momentum stems from an early-morning research note published on Friday by HSBC analyst Stephen Bersey, who upgraded Synopsys from a Hold to a Buy rating and raised his 12-month price target from $490 to $700. In his note, Bersey expressed a highly constructive view on the EDA sector, arguing that Synopsys is actively transforming its underlying operational profile.
Specifically, the analyst wrote that the firm is shifting from a “moderate-growth software provider to a high-growth company driven by advances in artificial intelligence.” The $700 target implies significant upside as AI-driven chip design complexity demands heavier utilization of Synopsys’s software ecosystem.
Moving Past the Ansys Integration Overhang
Beyond the structural AI growth tailwind, Bersey’s note highlighted that the upgrade reflects a more favorable setup following the stock’s recent valuation pullbacks. The analyst pointed out that Synopsys shares had previously suffered a derating due to macro concerns surrounding the company’s revenue exposure to China, as well as the execution and regulatory risks associated with its massive integration of simulation software provider Ansys.
With those integration fears beginning to subside, evidenced by Synopsys recently rolling out Multiphysics Fusion, its first combined product offering with Ansys, HSBC views the prior multiple compression as overdone.
