Meta Stock Runs Overbought Into Connect — Wall Street Still Targets $800+

Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:META) heads into its annual developer conference Wednesday with Wall Street targets rising and momentum gauges flashing caution.

The Run-Up

Shares closed Monday at $741.24, up 11.34% on volume of 48.5 million — roughly 157% above the three-month average — lifting Meta’s market value to about $1.89 trillion.

The move capped a near-20% September rally driven by early traction for Muse, Meta’s personal AI agent, plus reports of custom AI chips built with Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:AVGO).

Muse has been the most-downloaded free iPhone app in the U.S. for three straight days, per Sensor Tower.

Targets Chase the Tape

Jefferies raised its target to $875 from $710 Tuesday, keeping a Buy. Bank of America’s Justin Post reiterated a Buy and $810 target, built on 24 times projected 2027 earnings.

Wells Fargo’s Ken Gawrelski lifted his Overweight target to $796 from $640 Monday, saying Meta “now has a story to tell” on AI, according to CNBC.

The catch: Meta’s 37-analyst average target sits at $784, barely 5% above Monday’s close, with bullish outliers doing the heavy lifting.

The Technical Warning

Momentum is stretched. Daily RSI-14 hit 77.8, per Benzinga Pro data, well above the 70 overbought threshold.

META’s price has also pulled far ahead of its moving averages, trading 18.4% above the 20-day SMA, 22.9% above the 50-day SMA, and 20.1% above the 200-day SMA—classic “price stretched” behavior that often invites either consolidation or sharper pullbacks.

Even so, the 20-day SMA remains above the 50-day SMA (bullish near-term structure), which is typically what trend traders want to see during strong runs.

For context, Benzinga Edge Rankings score Meta strongest on Growth (79.64) and Quality (72.4), with Value at 49.74 and Momentum at 44.31, showing a fundamentals-led profile rather than a trend-led one.

What to Watch

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg speaks at 7 p.m. ET Wednesday, with a developer state of the union at 1 p.m. ET Thursday. Experts are expecting camera-free “Luna” glasses, refreshed Ray-Ban and Oakley frames, a Project Phoenix headset preview and Muse updates.

The risk is timing, not thesis. Phoenix ships in 2027, and Meta has disclosed no Muse usage figures.

META Stock Price Activity: Meta stock was up 0.69% at $746.35 at the time of publication Tuesday, according to Benzinga Pro market data.
