Optical Innovation and Infrastructure Demand
According to Monday’s press release, the eight-wavelength DWDM ELSFP module is an external light source built for near-packaged optics and co-packaged optics interconnects in AI systems. The company states that the product is intended to separate the laser from the high-temperature environment of compute and switching packages.
Per Monday’s press release, by keeping the laser external in a small pluggable form factor, it allows the optical engines to sit closer to the switch and accelerator, reducing electrical distance as bandwidth and port density demands increase.
Lumentum confirmed the module utilizes their Ultra High Power laser platform and expects the initial availability of the module in the first half of calendar year 2027.
