Taiwan Semiconductor Executive Calls AI Toddler With Superpowers

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. (NYSE:TSM) stock is trading higher by more than 1% during Wednesday’s premarket session as semiconductor stocks track a firmer market backdrop. Nasdaq futures are up 0.56%, while S&P 500 futures have gained 0.32%.

With no major company-specific headline driving the move, Taiwan Semiconductor’s gains appear tied to broader market sentiment. Investors are moving back into large-cap technology and semiconductor stocks ahead of the opening bell.

Meanwhile, Taiwan Semiconductor Co-Chief Operating Officer Y.J. Mii urged caution around AI, Bloomberg reported. Mii compared the technology to a “three-year-old Superman” — a toddler with extraordinary powers that does not yet know right from wrong. He warned that improper use could expose confidential data. Mii also said AI currently offers limited help in developing the most advanced chipmaking processes.

Taiwan Semiconductor Technical Analysis

TSM remains in a long-term uptrend. The stock is trading about 10.6% above its 200-day simple moving average of $377.26. Shares have also gained 57.88% over the past year.

However, the near-term setup is less clear. The stock is about 0.7% below its 20-day SMA of $420.43 and roughly 0.1% below its 50-day SMA of $417.85.

Several key moving averages are clustered around the low-$420 range. A move above that area could strengthen the bullish setup. However, failure to break through could keep the stock range-bound.

Momentum has also cooled. The MACD remains below its signal line, while the histogram is negative. That suggests buyers may need stronger momentum to extend the rally.

Critical Levels: Resistance sits near $429.50. Support is around $405.50. A break below support could increase downside pressure.

Analyst Outlook

The stock carries a Buy consensus rating and an average price forecast of $547.38.

Stifel initiated coverage with a Buy rating and $515 price forecast on Sept. 2. Bernstein maintained an Outperform rating and raised its forecast to $554 on Aug. 11. Needham maintained a Buy rating and lifted its forecast to $530 on July 27.

Taiwan Semiconductor trades at about 30.7 times earnings, reflecting a premium valuation.

The scores point to strong momentum, growth and quality, while valuation remains the weaker part of the profile.

Its sizable weighting means flows into or out of these ETFs can affect demand for Taiwan Semiconductor shares.
