Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) dropped a new teaser for its long-delayed Roadster over the weekend, and eagle-eyed fans quickly found more than a launch date buried inside the image.

The teaser shows the rear end of the hypercar bathed in red light, with four white plumes firing beneath it and the date “10.01” stamped across the bottom. The caption read simply “Go for launch.”
Buried in the shadows between the taillight bar and the thruster glow, though, sits a hidden phrase. Saturating the colors or boosting exposure reveals the words “Where we’re going…” tucked into the dark strip of the image, according to a post from X user AutismCapital.
Tesla Goes Back to the Future
Fans of the 1985 film need no help finishing that sentence. Doc Brown’s full line from “Back to the Future” famously continues, “Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads” — delivered just before his DeLorean lifts off the pavement and takes flight.
The reference lines up with years of hints from Musk about the Roadster’s so-called SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX) package, a set of cold-gas thrusters meant to let the car briefly leave the ground.

Musk confirmed Saturday that Tesla will unveil the production Roadster on Oct. 1, nearly nine years after the second-generation prototype first appeared alongside the Tesla Semi in 2017, according to Reuters.
Tesla’s account on X posted the “Go for launch” graphic, and Musk followed up with his own post reading, “New Tesla Roadster Unveil 10.01.”
Reuters noted the unveiling could include a demonstration of a limited-edition version equipped with the SpaceX-developed thrusters, a report that traces back to an August account from The Information saying the event could take place at SpaceX’s test site in McGregor, Texas.
The Roadster program has stretched on far longer than Musk originally promised. He unveiled the prototype in November 2017 with a target of 2020 deliveries, then pushed the timeline repeatedly over the following years.
Whether the flying-car tease pans out remains unconfirmed. Tesla has not detailed what will happen on Oct. 1, leaving the hidden “Back to the Future” line as the biggest public clue so far.
