Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has criticized Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE:DAL) for reportedly refusing to allow its flight attendants to form a union.
Warren Accuses Delta of Threatening Pay, Benefits Over Unionization
Taking to the social media platform X, Warren quoted a post by Reuters from September 9 that Democratic Party leaders were urging Delta CEO Ed Bastian to remain neutral amid unionization efforts. “Flight attendants have the right to organize a union without intimidation or interference,” Warren said on Sunday.
The Massachusetts Senator added that she had “received reports” that the airline had threatened to halt “pay and benefits,” while also encouraging “new workers to report colleagues for even mentioning a union,” she said, criticizing the airline. “I’m pushing back against union-busting tactics,” Warren added.
FAA Touts SMART Software
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Bryan Bedford held a meeting with executives from Delta, as well as American Airlines Group Inc. (NASDAQ:AAL), Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE:LUV) and United Airlines Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:UAL), touting the SMART flight scheduling and management software as the agency plans to deploy it in the coming weeks.
Gavin Newsom Hails California Rideshare Union
Democratic Party leaders have pushed for unionization, with Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) hailing the decision by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and California Gig Workers Union’s (CGWU) to represent drivers working with ride-hailing companies Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE:UBER) and Lyft Inc. (NASDAQ:LYFT).
Newsom signed legislation in 2025 giving more than 800,000 California rideshare drivers a legally protected path to unionization. In Massachusetts, drivers working on the Uber and Lyft platforms were also granted the right to form their own union.
