Health authorities have categorized an urgent device withdrawal by Boston Scientific Corp. (NYSE:BSX) as the most serious class of recall available.
Severe FDA Safety Recall Warning
The regulatory advisory released on Thursday covers the company’s Infinion CX Lead, which functions as an integral part of its Spinal Cord Stimulator System for treating chronic limb and back pain.
Continuing to deploy these defective products carries potential hazards of severe patient harm or death.
Mandatory Action For Healthcare Professionals
Federal officials noted that the medical device maker issued an urgent notification to impacted clients requesting the immediate withdrawal of all unused items from point of sale or operational locations.
Recipient facilities must halt the distribution and application of the inventory straight away while isolating remaining stocks before shipping them directly back to Boston Scientific.
Additionally, organizations must share these regulatory guidelines across all internal staff members who operate the system and notify outside clinical entities that received transferred items.
The recall solely applies to un-implanted inventory. Patients who currently have the device installed do not require supplementary medical surveillance outside of standard clinical follow-up care.

Mechanical Stress Drives Escalating Device Failures
The underlying cause stems from mechanical stress occurring along the anchor site of the lead body within the Spinal Cord Stimulator System. This physical strain can induce lead fractures or create excessively high impedance measurements.
Consequently, abnormal impedance readings might produce insufficient pain management therapy or force secondary operative procedures, including complete lead explant and surgical replacement.
Prior to issuing the advisory, Boston Scientific documented 1,081 serious injuries tied to these physical defects as of May 27, 2026. The enterprise confirmed that no patient deaths have been reported in connection with the issue.
BSX Stock Price Activity: Boston Scientific shares were up 1.77% to $47.78 at the time of publication on Friday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
