Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) shares jumped Thursday as traders positioned ahead of the company’s highly anticipated Cybercab event this evening in Austin, Texas.
The rally comes as Morgan Stanley analysts laid out a binary setup for the stock in a note previewing the event, according to CNBC.

If Thursday’s Cybercab event “includes a meaningful rollout of unsupervised” vehicles, the analysts said they expect Tesla’s stock to “regain momentum.”
And if the event underwhelms, the market reaction would likely be “muted or negative,” they argued.
The Bull Case
Morgan Stanley’s optimism centers on Tesla finally moving from demonstration to deployment. The firm maintains a $400 price target and an equivalent hold rating on the stock.
“Continued growth in the unsupervised fleet (Cybercab or Model Y) is key for the stock to outperform through year-end,” the analysts wrote, per CNBC.
That framing matters given how far Tesla shares have fallen this year — down about 21% as of Wednesday’s close and before Thursday’s rebound.
A credible signal that Tesla can scale unsupervised driving beyond limited pilot programs could reset investor sentiment heading into the fourth quarter.
The Bear Case
Morgan Stanley indicated that another round of flashy demos without evidence of real commercial scale would leave the bear thesis intact.
If the bear case materializes, Tesla stock could echo the market’s reaction to the original 2024 “We, Robot” robotaxi reveal, when the same firm’s analysts said they were “overall disappointed with the substance and detail” and warned shares would face pressure.
What It Means For Traders
With shares already up sharply intraday, the market appears to be pricing in at least some chance of a positive surprise.
But Morgan Stanley’s hold rating suggests the firm is not ready to call a trend reversal until Tesla shows tangible fleet growth — not just another headline-grabbing unveiling.
Traders watching TSLA will want to track any post-event commentary on unsupervised mile counts and deployment timelines.
TSLA Stock Price Activity: Tesla stock was up 7.11% at $382.38 at the time of publication Thursday, according to Benzinga Pro.
