Ford Motor Co (NYSE:F) shares are trading lower Tuesday afternoon following the release of disappointing monthly sales figures.
- Ford Motor stock is showing weakness. What’s driving F stock lower?
Weak July Demand Triggers Investor Sell-Off
The automaker reported total July U.S. vehicle sales of 169,951 units, representing a 10.2% decline compared to the same period last year.
Wall Street responded negatively to the broad-based weakness across multiple key vehicle categories, which potentially raises concerns about softening consumer demand, rising industry inventory levels and potential price cuts that could erode profit margins heading into the second half of the year.
EV Slump and Brand Contraction Fuel Revenue Concerns
Ford’s sales of fully electric vehicles plummeted 74.9% year-over-year to just 2,065 units, driven by sharp declines in models like the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning. Overall electrified sales fell 40.3%, while hybrid demand dropped 25.1%.
Additionally, SUV sales slipped 21.3% and the luxury Lincoln brand plunged 35.9%. Because automakers rely on steady volume to cover heavy capital expenditures in EV transition strategies, a sharp contraction in higher-margin and strategic growth segments could be fueling fears that top-line revenue and overall profitability will remain constrained in upcoming quarterly earnings.
