Why Is Hut 8 Stock Falling on Wednesday?

Hut 8 Corp. (NASDAQ:HUT) stock is falling on Wednesday due to a mix of broader tech-sector and digital asset sell-offs ahead of its upcoming earnings report.

The Nasdaq is down 0.93% while the S&P 500 has shed 0.73%, and Technology is also lagging with a 2.1% loss.

Hut 8 is scheduled to report financial results on August 4. Consensus projections expect an EPS loss of 32 cents, down from $1.18 in the same period last year. Meanwhile, analysts project revenue of $81 million, up from $41.30 million year-over-year.

Wall Street Analyst Consensus

The stock carries a consensus Buy rating with an average price forecast of $103.

Analyst actions include Keefe, Bruyette & Woods reiterating an Outperform rating and raising its target to $157 on Tuesday, alongside Benchmark raising its price forecast to $195 on July 22.

On July 23, Morgan Stanley initiated coverage on the company with an Overweight rating and a $263 price forecast.

Analyst Stephen Byrd grounded his outlook in the valuation of the company’s 2,680 megawatts of capacity, emphasizing deal execution at the River Bend Campus and Beacon Point.

HUT Stock: Key Technical Levels To Watch

HUT is now trading 12.3% below its 20-day SMA ($102.23) and 19.2% below its 50-day SMA ($110.96), which frames the current move as a short-term downtrend inside a still-strong longer-term uptrend. The stock is sitting just 0.2% above its 100-day SMA ($89.48) and remains 29.1% above its 200-day SMA ($69.43), so the bigger trend hasn’t fully broken—yet.

The moving-average structure is mixed: the 20-day SMA is below the 50-day SMA (bearish for the near-term), but the 50-day SMA is still above the 200-day SMA (a bullish longer-term backdrop). From a levels perspective, traders will likely focus on whether price can hold the nearby support zone below.
