What’s Going On With QuantumScape Stock?

QuantumScape Corp (NASDAQ:QS) shares are slipping Wednesday. Investors may be positioning ahead of the solid-state battery developer’s second-quarter earnings release, scheduled for after today’s closing bell.

Pre-Earnings Caution Hits QS

With results due after the close, traders appear to be reducing exposure rather than carrying risk into the print. Wall Street is forecasting a loss of 18 cents per share for the second quarter heading into the report.

The first quarter gave investors a constructive data point to build from. QuantumScape’s results came in ahead of expectations after posting a loss of 16 cents per share against a consensus forecast for a loss of 18 cents, while adjusted EBITDA landed at a loss of $63.2 million, right in line with what analysts had anticipated.

The company reaffirmed its full-year adjusted EBITDA loss guidance of $250 million to $275 million and kept its capital expenditure outlook intact at $40 million to $60 million for the year.

CEO Siva Sivaram used his shareholder letter to frame QuantumScape’s work within the broader energy storage transformation, arguing that advances in battery technology are becoming essential infrastructure for the artificial intelligence era and that the company’s years of disciplined execution have positioned it at the center of that shift. Whether the second quarter reinforces that narrative or raises new questions will become more clear when results hit after the close.

QS Versus The Tape: Overhead Supply Still Runs The Show

QuantumScape is still dealing with a heavy technical backdrop, and the chart reflects it. The stock trades 11% below the 20‑day SMA $6.71 and 20.4% below the 50‑day SMA $7.50. That type of setup often produces rallies that look promising early in the session but run straight into sellers waiting at those moving averages like bouncers at the door.

Zoom out and the trend gets even tougher. QS sits 37.9% below the 200‑day SMA $9.61. The moving‑average structure reinforces the pressure. The 20‑day SMA is below the 50‑day SMA, and the death cross that formed in February remains active. Add in MACD below its signal line with a negative histogram, and momentum is fading compared with the prior upswing unless buyers can reclaim that baseline.

Price structure is not helping. The stock is hovering near the lower end of its 52‑week range $5.64 to $19.07, with the July low and the October 2025 peak still defining the broader swing.

  • Key Resistance: $6.71, a zone near the 20‑day SMA where rebounds often stall.
  • Key Support: $5.64, a floor at the 52‑week low area where buyers previously stepped in.

QS Shares Are Declining

QS Price Action: QuantumScape shares were down 1.98% at $5.94 at the time of publication on Wednesday. The stock is trading near its 52-week low of $5.64, according to Benzinga Pro.
