TotalEnergies Advances Major Abu Dhabi Gas Development

TotalEnergies SE (NYSE:TTE) shares are trading higher by more than 3% on Tuesday as it reported a new development in Abu Dhabi.

• TotalEnergies stock is surging to new heights today. What’s fueling TTE momentum?

What Is TotalEnergies’ New Project Catalyst?

TotalEnergies said it has reached a Final Investment Decision for the Umm Shaif Gas Cap development in the Umm Shaif and Nasr offshore concession.

The company holds a 20% interest alongside ADNOC (60%), CNPC (10%) and ENI (10%), with ADNOC Offshore as operator.

The company said the project is designed to unlock by 2030 more than 600 million cubic feet per day of gas production, with potential to increase to up to 1.5 billion cubic feet per day in the future.

Production Growth Remains On Track

Last week, the company said it expects higher oil prices to lift upstream cash flow, but weaker LNG trading results and production disruptions in the Middle East weighed on investor sentiment.

TTE said second-quarter production should reflect organic growth in line with its 4% quarterly guidance.

It estimated the impact from the Middle East conflict at about 210,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, an improvement from the 360,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day reduction projected last quarter.

Critical Technical Levels for TTE Stock

With Energy ranking five out of 11 sectors today (mid-tier) at +0.26%, TTE’s outperformance reads as more stock-specific than purely sector beta. Broader breadth is supportive (advance/decline ratio of 2.7), which can help investors “pay up” for clearer project visibility and longer-dated production contributions.

From a trend perspective, TTE is still in a mixed zone: it’s trading 4.9% above its 20-day SMA ($78.85) but 2.3% below its 50-day SMA ($84.73) and 3.9% below its 100-day SMA ($86.12). Longer term, the stock remains constructive, sitting 8.6% above its 200-day SMA ($76.19) and maintaining a bullish 50-day-over-200-day structure even as the 20-day sits below the 50-day (a near-term bearish crossover).

Momentum is improving: MACD is above its signal line and the histogram is positive, which points to fading downside pressure versus the prior downswing. In plain English, when MACD is above its signal line, it often means buyers are starting to regain control even before price fully reclaims key moving averages.

  • Key Resistance: $91 — Round-number area near the upper part of the recent range and below the $94.17, 52-week high where rebounds can stall
  • Key Support: $75 — Nearby floor above the 200-day SMA ($76.19) zone where buyers previously stepped in.

How TTE Compares to Energy Sector Today

TTE is outperforming its sector by a wide margin today, up +2.40% versus Energy (XLE) at +0.26%, a gap of 2.14 percentage points. That kind of spread suggests the market is reacting to company-specific drivers rather than just following crude-linked flows.

Zooming out, Energy is a mid-tier performer today (ranked five of 11), trailing leaders such as Technology (+1.68%) while still participating in the broader advance. Over the past 30 days, the sector is up +7.40% (stronger near-term tape), but the 90-day gain of +2.69% shows the longer swing has been choppier — making stock-level catalysts more important for relative performance.

TotalEnergies Benzinga Edge Rankings Explained

Below is the Benzinga Edge scorecard for TotalEnergies, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses compared to the broader market:

  • Momentum: Bullish (Score: 74.5) — The stock is showing stronger-than-average trend persistence versus the broader market.
  • Value: Bullish (Score: 91.49) — The setup screens as inexpensive versus peers, aligning with the 12.0x P/E framing.
  • Growth: Moderate (Score: 46.49) — Growth factors are more middle-of-the-pack, so execution and commodity pricing can matter more than “pure growth” narratives.

The Verdict: TotalEnergies’ Benzinga Edge signal reveals a value-and-momentum leaning profile, with the strongest pillar coming from Value and supportive Momentum. If price can work back toward the $91 area, the scorecard suggests the tape may keep rewarding the stock, but the mixed moving-average stack says follow-through still matters.
